A Review of Rural Development Schemes in India | Asian Journal of Sociological Research

In India, two-thirds of the population still lives in villages, with agriculture serving as one of their primary sources of income. Agriculture and related activities employ around 50% of India's population. As a result, agriculture development is a prerequisite for rural development in India. As a result, we cannot improve the situation of the rural population unless we focus on agriculture. As a result, the government must place a greater emphasis on the agriculture sector, as agriculture and rural development are mutually beneficial. The numerous rural development programmes adopted in India were reviewed in this report. The analysis relied on secondary data gathered from numerous government websites and annual reports. MANREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act), PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin), and DDU-GKY (Deen Dayal Upadhya Gramin Kaushlya Yojana) all played important roles in India's rural development, according to the report. The MANREGA scheme provides employment opportunities to 29.3 crores rural people, the PMAY-G scheme provides pucca houses with basic amenities to approximately 1.40 crores of people against a target of 2.2 crores, and the DDU-GKY scheme trained 11.12 lakhs candidates and placed 6.48 lakhs of them on jobs.
