A Review of Antimicrobial Activities of Cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) | Asian Journal of Research in

Because of the need for new anti-microbe drugs as a result of the emergence of parasite strains that are resistant to chemotherapy, treatment with medicinal and aromatic plants and the use of their biologically active products, particularly as anti-microbials, has become a very important and urgent matter. Cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) is a remarkable multipurpose plant that has been utilised for thousands of years in practically every corner of the world as food, medicine, and other uses. It is a member of the Cactaceae family and is significant in agricultural economy in arid and semi-arid areas. This paper examines how traditional medicine has been used to treat a variety of ailments. The antibacterial action of cactus is also discussed in the paper. Humans consume cactus in a variety of forms, including raw, jam, juice, and other developed safe food products including cactus. This detailed analysis clearly demonstrates that cactus is a historically significant and future-relevant plant.
