REGENERATION OF PLANTS OF FINGER MILLET (ELEUSINE CORACANA GAERTN.) BY TISSUE CULTURE METHOD
Abstracts
The millets constitute a major source of energy and protein for millions of people who live in some of the world’s harshest climate and where often the rains fail. Millets have received scant attention in the filed of tissue culture studies. Initiation, growth and differentiation of callus has been studied from mature seeds and in vitro-grown mesocotyl, leaf sheath and root explants in MS medium supplemented with different auxins like 2,4-D, NAA, IAA, IBA and growth additives like CW and EDTA. From mesocotyl explant direct plant regeneration with callus formation was seen in combination of IAA & IBA and in combination of NAA and CW, Somatic embryogenesis in callus culture was greatly affected by 2, 4-D.
